The industrialisation need technologies to make tools for reducing the human work in the process of developing the desired object, the technological tools that are used in the industries also provide greater efficiency in the development process. The tools are then classified in the industries as power tools, hand tools etc

Power tools are the tools that use high power from the power source and then convert that electrical power into mechanical work, the mechanical work produced by the power tools is efficient as well as it takes much lesser time to complete the work, when compared with the human effort for that particular work.

Power tool is powered by an electric motor, which is an internal combustion engine for the tool. Power tools can have various energy sources that can be used to power the electrical motor of the power tool, the most common and efficient way of powering the motor is by direct ac supply. The other method that is generally used is the high current battery; the high current power tool battery has a battery backup that dries up in a very short period of time as it drives a high power motor. Thus, a power tool battery charger is used to charge the power tool battery. The major advantages of the battery driven power tools is that it can be used at a place which does not have ac supply line and later it can be charge through the power tool battery charger which is kept at the main workshop.

The power tools are classified into two types depending on their mobility, the stationary power tool and the portable power tool. The stationary power tool is heavy and non mobile whereas the portable power tool is lighter in weight but it doesn’t have the power drive as powerful as the stationary power tool. The energy source of the stationary power tool is generally the ac supply line whereas the energy source of the portable power tool is the battery, thus there are two parts of the portable power tool, one is the portable tool and the other is the stationary power tool battery charger.

The stationary power tools have applications that are restricted to very high power drives such as of the lathe machines and the table saws. The lathe machines are the machines that produce truly round objects, thus they require high torque which can be delivered by an ac powered lathe only. The major applications of the battery powered portable power tools are the hand saw, routers etc. The hand saw is the smaller version of the table saw, the table saw is much faster as compared to the hand saw and also much more accurate. The restriction of the table saw is that it requires a table of cutting where as the hand saw can work in any work place.
